Fletcher, 28, is the lead singer with McFly, who are celebrating their tenth anniversary. The band have joined forces with Busted to form McBusted, on tour next year. How did you end up presenting a cat talent contest on This Morning? I had the earpiece and autocue to deal with, which was new for but I enjoyed it.
What were the essential qualities you were looking for in the cats? Of course none of them did what they were supposed to do, which was part of the gag. This is your tenth anniversary year — what have been the highs and lows? It was quite emotional. The low points were some difficult moments in our personal lives.
Is getting played on the radio more difficult as the years go by? It can be tricky.
You revealed you suffered from depression — how have you dealt with that? So many different things can trigger it — being in the music industry comes with highs and lows and if you struggle with depression, the extremes of those emotions can be heightened. How long did you have it before you got help? What prompted you to get help?
With bipolar or manic depression you go through cycles and mine were quite recognisable — it coincided with what we were doing with writing and promotion. There was a lot going on. Other band mates were also having a tough time. I saw it and got help afterwards.
What was the first song you wrote about? I wrote some more and played them at my audition for Busted, which is when I took it more seriously. One of the first was called Hot Date, which was about taking a girl to the cinema and only paying for the ticket because you want to get laid — very mature.
Why did you post your baby announcement on YouTube? People would find out about it anyway. Are you hoping to beat the huge number of views you got for your wedding speech video?
Me and my wife do songs together on YouTube anyway, we just thought it would be a nice Mcbusted tom wife sexual dysfunction of announcing it to our families. Do you often get asked for wedding speech advice?
Or I get hateful looks from grooms-to-be: It was easier for me to sing than do a speech. I sing songs all the time so it was a bit of cop-out. What are your career ambitions? To become an astronaut.
