Please make sure that you are posting in the form of a question. And we're all headed Topanga tube Topanga, our spring reverb pedal based on the legendary Fender 6G15 outboard spring reverb unit! We've captured all the drip, flutter, cluck, clang, and splash of the original tubes and springs unit in a small pedal format! The outboard spring reverb unit is the sound of surf guitar as well as many other great guitar sounds from the sixties.
"Topanga tube" also had a Dwell knob, which controlled how hard the springs were getting hit by the guitar signal, as well as a Tone knob that gave more control over the reverb sound.
It Topanga tube also essentially a tube preamp, so it would color the sound going into the amp. All this added up to a very distinctive reverb sound that is hard to replicate. But we here at Catalinbread had to try! And we think we got it! Besides giving you the classic three knob "Topanga tube" compliment of the original, we've also added a great discrete preamp that you can control via the Volume knob for a healthy amount of great clean boost when you want it.

Topanga tube Topanga has alot more uses than just surf music also, it can be fine tuned to just what you need, and even get ambient sounds too. This pedal also is unexpectedly "Topanga tube" remarkably inspirational and guides you to different ways of playing with new licks and progressions.
This is a digital pedal but im not getting much digital harshness at all like some reverbs tend to do at higher settings, way to go Catalinbread, this ones on my board for a while. I directly compared this with a few other spring reverb pedals. This pedals normal signal is worlds above the Boss FRV-1 and most other spring reverb pedals.
It sucks tone less and is way more accurate to the sounds of a spring reverb outboard unit. It can even do the semi-distorted tones of '60s Spy music like the old James Bond theme. Topanga tube, it had a personal deal-breaker: When I palm-muted it sounded very digital, almost like a modulation effect was on it I know about the Easter Egg, this is not it.
Listen to the intro of Esperanza Dick Dale and you'll know what I mean. To most people this will not matter, but it's a deal-breaker for spring reverb for me. Amazing hand built quality from Portland Oregon.
I had a little run through it and god it's lovely, everything you want in a reverb pedal and more.
I opened it up to take a little looksie inside because you gotta have a peak at least, just beautiful work. Also a nice little surprise too, thus a reverb pedal and more. Love this pedal great for all music, especially surf. One person found Topanga tube helpful. I also tried a Biyang Tri-Reverb for kicks.
This was before Topanga was released. Out of them all, I found the Hardwire RV-7 to be the best and most realistic spring emulation. Again, this is to my tastes, everyone likes different sounds, and certain characteristics will appeal to some, while others may not, in any particular pedal.
My gripes about the RV-7 was a little too much separation between the wet and dry signal. Topanga is absolutely amazing. You can get a very bright reverb without the harshness that you'd get an FRV Every other reverb I tried, I felt I had to keep Topanga tube tone knob on the darker side to make the reverb sound better, less exaggerated, and less harsh.
The problem with keeping things dark, is you lose that splash and drip that makes spring reverb so cool. Catalinbread definitely got this right. The range of sounds on Topanga is in the fantastic.
You can definitely do subtle always-on all-purpose reverb with this. Just dial the knob back a bit, keep your mix and dwell to taste.
There's really no far-out settings to watch out for on this thing, which is a good thing. You keep your dry signal all the way up just past 3 o'clock. Anything below that is simply bringing the wet signal up, but not really attenuating your dry signal at all. Some other reverbs I tried functioned in a way that as your Wet came up, your Dry came down, and I didn't like that at all.
Catalinbread got this right too. Topanga tube Volume knob on this was something I didn't think too much about when I first got it. But I was thrilled to hear at what a good solid, and truly clean, boost this Topanga tube It's eliminated my need for an end of chain, always-on clean boost.
I used to do this, but now Topanga takes care of this duty as well. If you open the back and set it to buffered mode, then the Volume knob works whether the reverb is engaged or not. Again, can Topanga tube subtle, always on, but a lot of people looking at this are looking for some serious surf tones. I feel it nails it, without exaggeration, which spring reverb pedals often do.
It's hard to get the balance of spring nuances without overdoing it. I think Catalinbread pretty much nailed it.
